King’s Lynn Night Shelter is a registered charity, established by Churches Together in King’s Lynn to provide emergency accommodation and support to those who would otherwise be sleeping rough or in unsafe accommodation.
Starting out as a pilot project in 2017, the Night Shelter was established as a charity in its own right the following year. Up until 2020, guests were welcomed overnight only, arriving at 7pm in the evening and leaving before 9:30am the next morning. However, following the first lockdowns of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the government’s ‘Everyone in’ scheme, the decision was made, not only to move to a new location, but to become a 24/7 service.
Now based at St John’s House on Blackfriars Road, we can accommodate 8 guests at any one time, and are able to offer a wide range of personalised support. Each person that comes to us brings their own unique story, with many of them experiencing poor physical or mental health, grief, alcohol dependency or drug abuse.
We provide every guest with their own room, food, laundry services, toilet and shower facilities, access to computers, and 24-hour pastoral care. In addition, all guests are offered one-to-one assistance from our intensive support workers. This includes, help with making and keeping appointments, completing forms, managing Universal credit accounts, applying for ID and other forms of documentation, setting up bank accounts, applying for move-on housing, and occasionally being accompanied to external appointments, such as court, medical appointments, and housing interviews.
